Very pleased to be part of a volunteer team with Planning Aid Wales that is raising the possibility of ensuring the future of Caerphilly and District Miners Hospital takes into account local needs.
This magnificent building represents the heart and soul of the very best of the NHS. Purchased in the 1920's with the Miners penny if shaped the development of what the health service was to become.
The site is due to close in 2011 as the facilities transfer to state of the art new hospital in Ystrad Mynach.
Work has started with local people to scope out local needs and to build the case to ensure that this historic building is retained to serve local need in a sustainable way. And part of that sustainability case has inevitably got to be about how to make any future activities pay their way. It has also got to tap into the emotional resonance that this building symblolises.
I will soon be changing work role and look forward to continue working with the emerging steering group to bring this project forward.
